New Partner Spotlight: Jim Hooton

Recently retired, Jim Hooton says he’s “not ready to hang up my hat.”

That’s an understatement for an active, community-minded philanthropist who – along with his wife, Edie – has long supported Intercambio Uniting Communities and Attention Homes, former nonprofit participants of Social Venture Partners Boulder County. The couple has also sponsored the education of low-income students through the “I Have A Dream” Foundation Boulder County and manage a Donor-Advised Fund through the Community Foundation Boulder County … among several other giving and volunteer engagements.

Hooton – a new member among SVP Boulder County’s talented and diverse Partners – was introduced to us as a board member of Intercambio, attending a Boards with Brains workshop. “The more I learned about SVP, the more I felt that my career in consulting – helping clients run their businesses better and more efficiently – would be a great fit, applying my experience to the nonprofit sector.

“Nonprofits, in general, are the guardians of limited resources, which also means they don’t have the resources to pay for outside expertise. That’s where SVP Boulder County comes in, providing the opportunity for nonprofits to access the same professional skills and expertise without the price tag.”

Specifically, Hooton offers nonprofit participants of SVP Boulder County more than 35 years’ experience in the information technology industry as an entrepreneur and executive. Until his retirement, he was co-founder and co-CEO of Vertiba, a Platinum Salesforce.com implementation consulting firm based in Boulder and serving clients nationally.

Adds Hooton, “SVP provides great networking with a lot of like-minded, very accomplished people who share similar values. SVP Boulder County is also a very thoughtful organization in that it provides well-defined programs that are always time and energy well spent.

“And for someone like me – who can’t get used to the word ‘retirement’ – it feels good on a personal level to contribute to our community through SVP.”
