Welcome New SVP Staffer Spencer Downing

Spencer Downing cropped We are pleased to announce that Spencer Downing has joined SVP as our new Program + Volunteer Officer. He will be working to implement programs in partnership with our Partner members and nonprofit clients throughout Boulder County.

Spencer comes to the position with a wide variety of experiences in nonprofits. He first got to know SVP’s approach to building capacity in Los Angeles, where he directed a center in Hollywood that serves people who have experienced homelessness. He has also held executive roles in educational and media nonprofits. Spencer elaborates, “I think of myself as a systems nerd, and I love that SVP is all about improving systems across the nonprofit sector.” He is especially excited by programs that get leaders talking and problem solving together.

“We are thrilled to welcome Spencer to our SVP community. His energetic passion for social good, can-do attitude and deep interest in people are a great fit for our culture. He will help us do more with and for our community,” says Jennie Arbogash, SVP CEO.

Spencer holds doctorate and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and attended college at the University of Chicago. He moved to Boulder County three years ago when his partner’s career as a television news producer gave them the chance to move closer to their in-laws. They have two young girls, and the family loves to travel and ski. He is addicted to radio, and volunteers with KGNU Community Radio. He owns more books and records than necessary.
