New Partner Spotlight – Jorge Méndez

It is our pleasure to introduce our community to Jorge Méndez, one of SVP’s new Board members, who just started his board term on January 1st of this year.

After working in the Boulder County community for five years, Jorge Méndez, saw the opportunity to join SVP’s Board of Directors as a way to help elevate Boulder County nonprofit leaders and uplift at-risk and underserved members of our community.

“I believe that SVP Boulder County is capable of implementing strategies, services, and programming that organization leaders can leverage to create and proliferate positive social impact. As a board member, I’m looking forward to playing a hand in increasing BIPOC leaders and organizations access to SVP’s resources,” said Jorge.

Mentored by the Founding Director of SVP Miami, Jorge strongly believes in SVP’s mission to strengthen and support nonprofits. While he’s still learning more about SVP Boulder County’s programs, Jorge said “I’m excited about the work that Impact on Education is doing, particularly in their support of students following the Marshall Fire. I’m also thrilled by the anti-racism and social justice trainings that the YWCA is leading.”

Professionally, Jorge has been working with entrepreneurs in the social impact sector since 2014, when he launched a 12-week startup program for marginalized youth in Miami, Florida. Five years ago, he was drawn to Boulder through a job opportunity with the Watson Institute as their Director of Programs. Jorge had never visited Colorado or Boulder before but felt an immediate connection.

“Boulder welcomed me, a South Florida transplant, with open arms. I believe in the potential of nonprofit leaders in Boulder to transform the lives of economically disadvantaged and socially marginalized community members,” concludes Jorge.

Jorge was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela and grew up in Miami, Florida. In his free time, Jorge enjoys hiking the Flatirons, playing music, biking, baking bread, and watching Formula 1 and soccer.  Jorge recently left his position at the Watson Institute and is excited to join SEED SPOT as their Senior Program Manager. In his new role, Jorge will oversee SEED SPOT’s Bootcamp program and a 6-Week Impact Accelerator program.

Please join us in welcoming Jorge to SVP Boulder County!
