Skillful Philanthropy During COVID-19

Since mid-March, local nonprofits have been pushed to ask more of ourselves, more of our community, and more of the institutions we rely on to take care of one another. Along the way, we’ve seen how the COVID-19 crisis has exposed deep inequities (Boston Globe); at the same time, we’ve seen nonprofits and philanthropists rethink their priorities to accelerate action around those inequities.

Here at SVP Boulder County, we’ve developed a multi-faceted approach to respond to the effects of the pandemic on area nonprofits. Whether you’re a member Partner wishing to volunteer or a Boulder County nonprofit requiring assistance, we’re here for you, bringing together local business leaders and nonprofits for hands-on, peer-to-peer assistance and community building. Specifically, SVP is providing a number of pro bono planning and consulting services to help Boulder County nonprofit leaders navigate the COVID-19 crisis.

Related, we found these Five Strategies for Advancing Your Mission in 2020 (Philanthropy News Digest) of relevance to local social-sector leaders. Complement that with Three Things Nonprofits Should Prioritize in the Wake of COVID-19 (Stanford Social Innovation Review) in which the authors describe the critical important of so-called scenario planning as one of several actions nonprofit leaders can take to assess their social impact; and to hone their capacity to deliver on their missions in ways that are both relevant and viable – now, and in the future.

And don’t miss On Philanthropy: Giving in the time of COVID-19 (Denver Post), in which philanthropic strategist Bruce DeBoskey shares seven pointers for skillful, effective philanthropy; as well as this supporting report on The Role of Philanthropy in a Pandemic (WBUR OnPoint).
