Carolyn Powell joins SVP as Encore Program Manager

The SVP team is excited to welcome Carolyn Powell as the Program Manager for Boulder County’s soon-to-launch Encore Fellowships Program.

Encore Fellowships, as described by Encore.org, match “skilled, seasoned professionals with social purpose organizations in high impact, paid transitional assignments” where experienced professionals leverage their skills differently. Instead of transitioning from career into retirement, Fellows work one-year terms as high level placements within nonprofits. Fellows take on roles that deliver significant, sustained impact to their nonprofit host organizations. They earn a stipend, learn about social purpose work, and develop a new network of contacts and resources for the future. Ideally, the Fellow is then able to go on to a permanent nonprofit position.

Started in California’s Silicon Valley in 2009, by 2016 over 740 Encore Fellows across the U.S. had been matched with host organizations. SVP Boulder County has been selected as only the second program operator in the state of Colorado. The Encore Program Manager will help get SVP’s program off the ground, creating the infrastructure and relationships required for a successful launch.

With her extensive understanding of and engagement with the local business, government, and nonprofit sectors, says SVP’s Executive Director Jennie Arbogash, “Carolyn is a superb fit for the Encore Fellowships program and SVP. She brings strong business development, relationship management, and community engagement skill sets while also being an experienced mediator, comfortable in for- and non-profit settings.” Adds Carolyn, “I applied within thirty minutes of seeing the post about the position. It was love at first read.”

Hosting an Encore Fellowships program for Boulder County gives SVP an opportunity to provide area nonprofits with an alternative way to take advantage of highly-skilled support, and we’re thrilled to see Carolyn take on the task.
