It is our sincere pleasure to introduce our community to Dr. Daniel M. Yerger, founder and President of My Wealth Planners and a new Corporate Impact Partner here at SVP Boulder County.
Dan’s path to SVP grows out of a career spent thinking hard about who gets left behind. He’s spent years working with young professionals entering financial services, a field that has historically hired new advisors as a sales force to pitch their own family and community, rather than training them as professionals in their own right. Dan’s work has helped push that industry narrative toward a world where expertise and pro bono service matter more than sales numbers. That instinct, to notice where a system quietly fails people, is a big part of what drew him to SVP.
What he cares about most in Boulder County is what he calls the “donut hole” of economic opportunity: the gap between people in serious need and people who are comfortably provided for. “It’s the needs of the school teacher and nurse in Boulder County that concern me the most,” Dan says, “because while they’ve done everything right, they’re doing just well enough to get little help, but not well enough to be comfortable with our high cost of living.” More broadly, he’d love to see Boulder County’s nonprofit ecosystem move away from band-aid solutions and toward systemic thinking.
Fellow Partners might be surprised to learn that Dan spent six years in a U.S. Army PSYOP unit, whose motto, “Mutatio Animi,” translates to “Change of Mind” — a phrase that seems to have stuck with him well beyond his service.
Dan credits much of his thinking about community and generosity to his friendship with Michael Linsley, a Boulder artist and philanthropist. When they met, Michael was pouring his free time into public art and cultural projects — not private commissions, but work anyone could enjoy for free. He was, Dan says, the first person he’d ever met who was truly living the answer to the question, “If money wasn’t the issue or the barrier, what would you do with your time?” Michael taught him to focus less on day-to-day limitations and more on the meaning that comes from simply doing.
These days, Dan is looking forward to some genuinely nerdy reading: the second iteration of the CFP Board’s longitudinal study on the efficacy of financial planning is due out soon, and he’s eager to see the first year-over-year cohort comparison. If you want a Boulder County recommendation from him, look no further than Abbott & Wallace, which he swears makes the best old fashioned in Colorado.
